Donald Jan Whitten December 14, 1941 December 22, 2013 Scarborough - Donald Jan Whitten, 72, long-time resident of the Pine Point area in Scarborough passed away on December 22, 2013 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was born on December 14, 1941, the son of James F. and Flora A. ""Peg"" Fairfield Whitten. He grew up in Scarborough and attended Scarborough High School. Don served in the United States Air Force from 1961 - 1966. He later retired from the United States Postal Service and also worked for the Maine Turnpike Authority. Don was active with the American Legion and also enjoyed being a part of Scarborough Fish and Game. His interests included trap shooting, traveling to many states for shoots, karaoke, dancing, NASCAR and Beech Ridge. Don was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Jack and John. He is survived by his loving children Elizabeth Worley and her husband Gary Worley, Howard Whitten and Chad Dowling, one grandson, two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, as well as many nieces and nephews, and sisters in law Janice Whitten and Joan Whitten A private man, Don shared his life with three very special women, and was survived by the three great loves of his life Pat Hinkley, Wendy Boisvert and Durinda Jeanne (Mercier) Mulka. The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine, Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, and Visiting Nurses for their care of Don. Also, a special thanks to Pat Hinkley for all the great care she gave when his children weren't able to be there for him. A celebration of Don's life will be held at American Legion Post 197 in Westbrook, Maine on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at a later date.
