Obituary

Donald (Don) J. Bombaro, Sr. passed away on June 29, 2025 at home in Scarborough Maine. He was born on October 22, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late John and Elizabeth Bombaro. Don served as an Airman First Class in the United States Airforce from 1956 to 1962. He enjoyed many trips with his wife, Carlene, to Aruba, Niagara Falls, Las Vegas and their 50th anniversary cruise trip to the Caribbean. Don was affectionately know as Grumpy because he liked to act like a grumpy old man but he was really a big old cuddly teddy bear. We all knew if he wasn't picking on you, he didn't like you. He loved playing poker with his sons on Saturday night, the weekly visits by his granddaughters, Marianne's pizzelles, and going to the casino. He especially cherished his dog, Cosmo, who was right there beside him to the very end. In addition to his parents and his sister Julia Bombaro, Don was predeceased by his loving wife Carlene after 62 years of marriage upon her death in 2021. He is survived by his children, Donald Bombaro Jr (Cindy), Gina Cunningham (Bruce), Lisa Lance (Harry), Christopher Bombaro, Paul Bombaro (Kathie), David Bombaro (Brenda); his sister Barbara Ranieri (Greg) and nephew Gregory Ranieri (Rachel) and his beloved companion Cosmo. Don is also survived by his 17 grandchildren; Rebecca Bombaro (Bruce Fournier), whom he and Carlene raised for the first 5 years of her life while her dad was serving in the US Navy, John Holman, Jason Keith (Dawn), Michael Stowe, Tonya Stowe, Carly Brill (Ben), Joseph Huntress (Taylor), Michelle Cunningham (Darren Feeney), Donna Jo Zmuda (Derek), Brian Cunningham, Danielle Bombaro, Karen Bombaro (Neil Wallace), Ericha Bombaro (Chris Miller), Grant Boaz, Theresa Fuller (Chase), Griffin Boaz (Allison), and Elsie Mae Bombaro (Benjermyn Rohner) and his 22 great-grandchildren; Haley Fournier, Dominic Fournier, Zachary Fournier, Taylym Zmuda, Nolan Zmuda, Kashton Zmuda, Garrett Perry, JJ Keith, Caleb Keith, Austin Keith, Brycelynn Brill, Emmeline Brill, Jaxson Santaniello, Liam Stowe, Remy Stowe, Jackson Huntress, Scotty Miller, Samuel Bombaro, Tommy Miller, Franklin Bombaro, Winifred Bombaro and baby girl Boaz due in October; and many nieces and nephews. Don will be missed by his dear friends Marianne Piner, Bryan Bourghois, Vicky and Craig Worcester and Mel. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
