Obituary

Dominic Alfred DeLuca Dominic A. DeLuca passed away at his home surrounded by his family on April 8, 2025 at the age of 88. Born in Portland Maine on October 15, 1936 to Daniel and Queenie (Iovine) DeLuca. He attended Portland Schools and completed an apprenticeship in masonry which led to a long and respected career as a brick mason. He served in the National Guard 103rd Division from Portland. He was a member of the Consolidated Contractors of America, The Riverside Golf Association and the Construction Golf League. On September 15, 1956 he married Sally (Lee) and they settled in Portland where they raised their 7 children. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Dominic was always there to lend a helping hand, attend a ball game, school event or simply offer advice. His family meant everything to him. Dominic loved boating and found great pleasure spending summers touring Casco Bay, cruising the coast to Boothbay Harbor and Camden, and spending leisurely weekends at 'Cocktail Cove' on Great Diamond Island with family and friends. He looked forward to winters in Florida where he and mom enjoyed time golfing and socializing. He was fortunate to travel to Florida twice this winter where he had the time of his life with several of his children. It gives us great comfort knowing how happy he was to be spending this time with his family doing casino trips, breakfast on the water, boat rides and card games at night. We created treasured memories to last a lifetime. Dominic was predeceased by his parents and sisters Theresa (Bill) Little and Joanne Johnson. Dominic is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sally, sons James (Dorothy), and Daniel (Sue), daughters, Sally DeLuca, Karen (John) Caprio, Cathy DeLuca, Kelly (Keane) McGarvey and Sandra (Peter) Lekousi, his 12 grandchildren: Michelle (Pete) Brusyo, Jason (Olivia) DeLuca, Tyler (Lucia) DeLuca, Daniel (Morgan) DeLuca, Chase (Annie) Caprio, Alex (Yesenia) DeLuca, Chelsea (Colby) Roy, Anthony (Sarah) Wheeler, Kaylee Wheeler, Sarah (Tyler) Wilcox, Elizabeth McGarvey and Abigail DeLuca as well as 11 (almost 12) great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Camilla Burns, and many nieces and Nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Emery and Gentiva Hospice Care for their kind and compassionate care. Donations in Dominic's name can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Gentiva Hospice Care. Family and friends are welcome to join us on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 for visiting hours from 9:30-11:00 followed by a celebration of his life beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home 660 Brighton Ave, Portland, ME 04102. Burial will be at a later date.
