Deneige Marie Pompeo January 13, 1915 February 11, 2013 Portland - Deneige Marie Pompeo, 98, of Portland, passed away peacefully at the Barron Center on February 11, 2013 after a short illness. She was born in Westbrook on January 13, 1915, the daughter of Medric and Roseanne (LaPointe) Harvey. She grew up in Westbrook with her three brothers and one sister, and attended the local schools. In June of 1942, Deneige married Peter J. Pompeo and settled into their home on Presumpscot Street in Portland. It was a house that the two had built together. It was to be her family's home for the next 70 years. It was there that Deneige and Peter would raise their three children; Peter, Ann Marie and Bobby. It truly was a family home, she looked forward to the Sunday and Holiday cooking. She always said that there was always room for one more plate and her children's friends knew that they were always welcome. Once her children were grown and she was in her 40s, Deneige went to work for W.T. Grant at the Pine Tree Shopping Center. When Peter passed away at a young age in 1965, she stepped up and worked hard to support her family. She was a strong lady and never complained, the only side that showed was her kindness to everyone around her. In a way to show her strong independent spirit; when she was in her 70s, while she was vacationing in Florida, she called home and asked her daughter: ""Guess what I bought?"" Ann Marie responded by saying a dress. Her mother's answer was a ""House"". For the next twelve years she looked forward to her winters in Florida. Deneige is predeceased by her three brothers, Romeo, Adrian and Valdor, along with her sister Delores. She is survived by her sons, Peter (Buster) Pompeo of Portland, and Robert (Bobby) Pompeo of Cumberland; her daughter Ann Marie Guevin of Westbrook; her daughter-in-law Carolyn O'Brien of Buxton and her son-in-law Ronald Guevin of Portland. Deneige is also survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. The family would like to give thanks to the staff on Two North of the Barron Center for their wonderful care that they gave to our mother during her stay there. Friends and family are invited for prayers on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 9:00 AM at the A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 72 Federal St, Portland.
