Dawn Marie Axelson, 50, passed away on June 24, 2025, in Portland, Maine. She was born on December 27, 1974, in Orange, California, and spent much of her life in Maine. Dawn grew up in the area and graduated from Gorham High School. In 1996, Dawn moved into the Millie Morrell House through Group Main Stream, where she lived for nearly three decades until her passing. Her time there was marked by lasting connections and a sense of community. Dawn worked at Shaw's Supermarket, where her warm demeanor and friendly smile made her a familiar and cherished presence. Her fun-loving spirit and infectious laughter brightened the days of coworkers and customers alike. Dawn attended PSL/Strive for many years where she loved to go bowling and volunteered at The Ronald McDonald House. She made many friends while attending the program. She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Betsy Axelson; stepfather, Gene Bowden; Melissa French, co-guardian; brothers Todd Lively and Thomas Woods; sister Pamela Woods; stepsisters Deana Market and Adrienne Bowden. Each holds dear the joy she brought into their lives. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland, ME, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Group Main Stream—especially Bethany DeLorenzo, Brecken Anderson, and all of her staff—as well as Hospice of Southern Maine caregivers Julie (RN), Hope, and Lindsay for their compassionate support to Dawn and her mother and stepfather.
