David L. Lloyd-Rees October 2, 1927 November 22, 2013 FALMOUTH a€"" David L. Lloyd-Rees, of Falmouth Foreside, died on Nov. 22, 2013. He was born on Oct. 2, 1927, in Boston, Mass., and grew up on a sugar plantation in Cuba. He attended boarding schools in Florida, Virginia and Cambridge, Mass., before entering Harvard College, from which he graduated in 1950. He later attended Western New England College, earning an MBA degree. Following the start of the Korean War, he enlisted in the Army and served three years as an enlisted man, and later as an officer in the Antiaircraft Defense of New York City and Washington, D.C. His business career started with Norton Company as a field engineer in Pittsburgh. He joined the Carborundum Company in 1960 as a field engineer and assistant manager, based in Atlanta. This led to various managerial assignments in California, New York and New England. He retired after 30 years and worked as a manufacturers' agent for seven years from his home in Maine. He was interested in carpentry and spent several years renovating and winterizing his Maine home. His other hobbies included boating, engine mechanics, and building model boats and radio controlled craft. He is survived by Jean, his wife of 58 years; his son David of South Portland, his two daughters, Victoria Smith of South Freeport and Katherine Kennie of Portland; grandsons, Christopher and Michael Smith, and Spencer and Trenton Lloyd-Rees, and granddaughters, Rebecca Smith and Alexandra Kennie.
