David James Ferrante Sr. of Westbrook passed away in his home in the early hours of Friday, September 18, surrounded by his loving family after a sudden and brief battle with cancer.

David was born to Donato and Ethel (Cash) Ferrante in Portland and grew up enjoying all the beauty and childhood adventures that Munjoy Hill had to offer in the fifties and sixties. After graduation David enlisted in the Air Force where he served with the medical team in the field of radiology. Returning to Portland in 1973 he eventually met and fell in love with Susan Keenan of South Portland and in 1976 they married and settled in Portland where they raised their three sons.

David enjoyed all sports, especially “the boys of summer”, rooting loudest for his hometown Red Sox and his heart held Dodgers. When those two competed in the 2018 World Series David rejoiced in the fact that whomever emerged victor he had cause for celebration.

Throughout his earlier years David enjoyed fishing and hunting but as time wore on he greatly enjoyed a good card game with his brothers, sons, and friends as well as competing yearly in his Baseball Strato League with relatives and friends.

David retired in 2018 from Lucas Tree Experts where he worked all his adult life as a groundsman, arborist, and finally as manager of the warehouse. Upon retiring David enjoyed relaxing days and nights with friends and family and will be sorely missed by all who love him and hold him dear.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to David's sister-in-law Erin Luck who graciously came and stayed with the family to assist in his care in his final days. Words alone cannot express our appreciation for her love and support.

David is predeceased by his mother and father, his twin sister Donna, his brother Donald, and his brother Daniel and his wife Karen.

He is survived by his loving wife Susan, his sons David Jr. and Bryan of Westbrook, Nicholas and his wife Kayla of Biddeford, his grandson Jayson of Raymond, his brother Dana and his wife Sherri of Buxton, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

A private service will be held by the family at a later date.
