David Emmanuel Bergson, Sr July 13, 1918 April 8, 2012 Falmouth - David Emmanuel Bergson, Sr. passed away Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 with his loved ones at his side. David was born on July 13, 1918 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, the son of Harry Bergson, Sr. and Augusta (Cook) Bergson. David graduated from Boston Latin School and attended George Washington University. David worked for over 45 years in the Seafood business, starting his career at Gloucester Ice and Cold Storage. He was Vice President of O'Donnell-Usen Fisheries for thirty-five years. He moved to Portland in 1950, and was the General Manager of Maine Fisheries Corporation and subsidiaries in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. He was a longtime member of the Portland Country Club and Maine Seniors Golf. David is survived by his wife, Mary Doris (Heath) Bergson. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Harry Jr., Phillip, and Herbert Bergson, and sister Isabelle Berman. David is survived by his elder sister, Elinor Rose; his five children, David Jr., Robert, Eugene, Clare Marie, and Stephen Bergson; and his stepchildren, Alan and Christopher Heath. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. David was an avid golfer along with Doris. After retirement, they spent winters in Sarasota, Florida where they were members of the Meadows Country Club. David was a caring and devoted father and husband, and will be dearly missed. He was blessed with a long, healthy and active life. He enjoyed boating, travel, crossword puzzles, and reading. Most of all he loved talking with people. The family would like to thank the affectionate and caring health care providers at Falmouth by the Sea, and the many friends he made there. In accordance with David's wishes, there will be a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the charity of your choice. Interment will be private.
