Original Obituary Falmouth - Constance ""Connie"" Webb Korda, of Falmouth, passed away at her home on May 1, 2012. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Ruth (Warren) and Paul Webb, Connie moved with her family to Maine, where she lived most of her life. After graduating from Deering High School in 1949, she earned a RN degree is nursing from New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. Connie later earned her BA in art and psychology from the Unversity of Southern Maine and her master's degree in counseling, leading to licensure as a licensed clinical professional counselor. She was married to Dr. Thor Korda, a dentist, who predeceased her in 1974. She is survived by their much loved children, Holly, Mark, Timothy and Jonathan Korda and his wife Janice and their children, Andrew and Kristin, her beloved grandchildren. Connie may be best remembered for 30-plus years as an employee of Maine Medical Center Pediatric Division and later in the Social Work Department counseling families and individuals dealing with issues of loss. She was one of the founders, along with her husband, of Shalom House when it was the first half-way house in Maine. In more recent years, she has facilitated support groups for the bereaved, including a survivors of suicide support group, leading to board membership and being named secretary of the Maine Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. A life-long interest in art drew her into a variety of artistic endeavors for which she was defined by friends as being creative and often humorous. She was the author of The Coat, a children's story of a talking coat passed on down as it was outgrown from one child to another, ending up in the Coats for Kids program. In celebration of her life and the way she touched all our lives in many different ways, friends and family are invited to gather for a memorial service at the Falmouth Community Church on Saturday June 9, 2012 at 11:00am. Friends of Connie are welcomed to come and share their memories of her. There will be a reception to follow the service. Arrangements are by A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute to the charity of their choice in Connie's memory.
