Obituary

Clifford Andrew Tainter "Cliff" March 8, 1926 October 14, 2012 Scarborough - On October 14th, 2012, "Cliff" Tainter, 86, passed on peacefully at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by his family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in March 8, 1926, Cliff was the son of Lincoln Stephen and Pearl Tainter. As a 17 year old, Cliff served his country in the Army in Europe, during WWII. After two enlistments and service connected disability, he returned home to work in carpentry and as a truck driver. He married Alma Grace Kerr in 1956 and raised 3 children: Bruce, Cheryl (Mitchell), and Clifford, Jr. in the Boston area; during which time he was fondly remembered for his love of family camping trips, making bicycles for all the neighborhood kids, and his hobby of raising pigeons. Twenty-four years ago, he and his wife moved to Maine to be close to his daughter and her family. He lived in South Freeport, in Portland at the Woods at Canco, and this last year with his daughter and son-in-law in Portland. Known as, "Grampa T" to his 5 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren as well as many special friends who came to visit, he was always ready with a beautiful smile and a way of making each person feel he was so happy to see them. His favorite times were being with his many grandchildren and keeping up with their activities. Along with children, Cliff was also an avid animal lover. He loved his dog, cats, birds and spent much time teaching all the kids about caring for animals. He also was very active at the Woods and later enjoyed being at the Barron Center Day Program, where he loved to be with all the "beautiful ladies." His favorite past-time was simply getting out for a daily drive to the East End to watch the boats and look over "God's beautiful creation". He had a simple faith in God and felt very peaceful when he was surrounded by nature. Mr. Tainter was predeceased by his brother, Richard, a sister Winifred Hannaford, his wife, Alma of 48 years and special friend, Charlotte Rosenbladd, who passed away in 2010. He is survived by two sons, Bruce Tainter and partner Pam Perry of Quincy, MA and Clifford Jr. and wife Donna of West Roxbury, MA., and daughter Cheryl and husband, Rev. Glenn Mitchell of Portland. He also leaves 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, who he always remembered with great love and affection. Visitation, followed by a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 21st at 3 PM at the North Deering Alliance Church on 1301 Washington Ave. in Portland. Internment and Graveside Service will be held on Friday October 26th at 11 AM at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, Massachusetts. Arrangements are under the care of A.T.
