Christina Marie Athanasion-Smith February 21, 1975 November 24, 2015 Christina Marie Athanasion-Smith Portland, Christina Marie Athanasion-Smith passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday November 24, 2015 at Seaside Rehabilitation Facility with her mother and brother by her side. Christina was born in Portland and her curiosity and intelligence kept her parents on their toes. She graduated from Deering High School, class of 1993 with honors. She married her high school sweetheart and relocated to Delaware with her husband. Christina studied dental hygiene and earned a RDH and a BSDH from the University of New Mexico graduating with honors in 2002. Christina excelled in her career and passed her passion for dental hygiene to others by teaching students at UNM. During her studies she joined the Air Force with her husband and earned several commendations including SR Airmen of the Year Award. She and her husband relocated to Highland IL where she continued to practice dental hygiene; however this marked the end of her marriage. Christina moved back to Portland where she belonged. In her last days she worked for Hannaford Brothers and Saco River Health Services; with autistic children. Once returning home she was able to witness the birth of her nephew, whom she adored immensely. Christina will always be remembered her by infectious smile, gourmet cooking skills, caring nature, and her love for animals. She is survived by Her Mother Joyce Slater, her father Charles Athanasion Jr and his wife Carol; her brother Charles Athanasion III and his fiancé Nickea Moss; and by Christina's pride and joy her nephew Nikko Charles Athanasion, as well as many Aunts, Uncles and cousins from both the maternal and paternal sides of her family. She is predeceased by both set of grandparents, and her loving cousin Stephen Tapley. The family would like to thank Seaside Nursing Facility, the Veterans Administration and Beacon hospice for their care and support in her final days, And to Julie Reali for helping the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Christina's name to the Animal Refuge league of Portland 449 Stroudwater St, Westbrook, ME 04092. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 pm with a memorial services at 6 pm on Wednesday December 2, 2015 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland.
