Chhin Meas, of Portland, passed away at home on September 23, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his daughter, Khatna Meas. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Saing Khov; his five sons, Eddie Meas of Massachusetts, Chinda Meas of Virginia, Sokha Meas of Gorham, Sokhan Meas of Portland, and Jimmy Meas of Portland; his two daughters, Sokkhann Cole of Jay, and Sandra Valle of Sanford; 25 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Chhin was 86 years old, born on March 10, 1938 in Cambodia. In the early 1970s, Chhin and his family fled Cambodia by foot to seek refuge from the Khmer Rouge. Sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church in Portland, Chhin and his family were granted the opportunity to move to the United States. The family arrived on April 1, 1986, full of gratitude and hope. Despite little knowledge of American culture and minimal English, Chhin embraced the chance to raise his family in a safe country. He was known as a truly kind, humble, generous man and was well-respected within the Cambodian community. He is very loved by all who have crossed paths with him, and he will be deeply missed. Services will be held at A.T. Hutchins, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland, ME On Sunday September 29, 2024 from 9-11AM.
