Obituary

Cecelia M. Lambert 1936 July 9, 2014 South Portland - Cecelia M. Lambert, 78, passed away on July 9, 2014 at her home. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Lambert and her grandson, Timothy J. Stickney as well as her parents. She was born in Augusta, Maine in 1936, but moved to Portland as a child. She attended Cathedral Parochial School and went on to graduate from Portland High School. She married William Lambert of South Portland, Maine in July of 1971 and together they raised her six children. Cecelia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. There is nothing that gave her more joy than spending time with her children, grandchildren and her friends. She loved to cook for family and friends and entertained often. She took great pride in her home and it was always ""open house"" at the Lambert Residence. If you visited Celia on a Thursday, it was common to find her in the kitchen happily cooking to ensure she had plenty of food to serve the guests that would inevitably show up on the weekend. Her children's friends referred to her house as ""CeeCee's Hotel"" - everyone was always welcome. She was a talented Crafter and was always working on a project - making quilts and knitting were her passion. Spending time with her friends brought her great joy. Wednesday luncheons and card games were the highlight of her week. She also enjoyed traveling and her favorite trip was to Hawaii. She loved to shop and had a talent for finding the best bargains. She was also thoughtful and observant and always gave the most perfect gifts. This talent came in handy during the Christmas season, which was her favorite time of year. She is survived by her children: Chris Sweetser and Cynthia McDermott of Yarmouth, Cheryl Sweetser of Portland, Penny and Rick Reny of Biddeford, Jodie Sweetser and Mike Knox of Biddeford, Melody and Chris Stickney of Gorham and Allan and Tina Sweetser of Westbrook; her two sisters, Shirley and Ray Frank of Scarborough and Dottie and Sam Arbuckle of Pensacola, Florida; her seven grandchildren, Mallory Sweetser, Amy Sweetser, Zachery Reny, Derek Reny, Ryan Sweetser, Morgan Stickney and Katie Stickney; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. There will be a celebration of Celia's life on Saturday, July 19th. Mass will be held in the Chapel at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland at 9am, followed by a reception at her home in South Portland.
