Catherine M. (Nicolai) Lee February 5, 1917 October 21, 2012 Catherine M. Lee, 95, of Portland, passed away with her family by her side at the St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Residence on October 21, 2012. She was born in Portland, on February 5, 1917, the daughter of Italian immigrants Rocco and Nicola (Ferrante) Nicolai. Catherine worked in the South Portland shipyard during WWII. Catherine and her sister Anna also travelled to New York City and worked there during WWII. They frequently reminisced about celebrating the end of the war in Times Square. She spent many years as a chambermaid at different places in Portland and also spent time as a homemaker and raising her children. Catherine loved shopping and taking trips to Atlantic City. She loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, John Joseph Lee, Sr, and two sons, Rocco and Dennis. She is survived by her children Ellen McKenney of Portland, Andrea Lee of Portland, Kathleen Horton of Alabama, Donna Lee of South Portland, Cynthia Berenson of Portland, John J. Lee of the Philippines and Michael Lee of Florida as well as ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph's for their care and compassion for Catherine during her time there. There will be a private graveside service for Catherine and her son Rocco at Calvary Cemetery on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 11:30am. Arrangements are under the care of A.T.
