Carole Alice Cosgrove Petrin March 2, 2012 Biddeford - Carole Alice Cosgrove Petrin 77, of Biddeford died peacefully and surrounded by her family on Friday, March 2, 2012. The youngest daughter of William A. Cosgrove and Phyllis H. Brearey Cosgrove of Biddeford. A graduate of Biddeford High School, Carole went on to receive her R.N. from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. In 1984 she was awarded her B.S. in Community Health Education from the University of Maine at Farmington. Her career path included positions at Deaconess Hospital in Boston, York County Community Health Services and Biddeford High School. Married on August 9, 1958 to Robert A. Petrin, DMD, their life would include extensive travel, great adventure and starting a family. She lived the length and breadth of her life with grace, kindness, style and love for everything and everyone around her. After gently steering 5 children into adulthood, she and Robert picked right back up and continued to spend lovely days at the golf course, on the beach, on the ski slopes, and around the dinner table surrounded with family and friends. In 1993 she became a grandmother and cherished this role through the remainder of her life. A passion of her life was her golf game & her lifelong love of the sport. She and Robert were members of the Cape Arundel Golf Club for 50 years. Carole served as the club representative to the Southern Maine Women's' Golf Association for 20 years. It was a game they enjoyed around the world, taking them many times to courses in Mom's ancestral home in Ireland & not to be "outdriven", to many courses in Dad's ancestral home in France. Carole was predeceased by her parents and her brother William Cosgrove. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert A. Petrin of Biddeford; a son Peter Petrin and partner Gail Binette of Sanford; daughters Mary Gilpatrick and her husband Brian of Biddeford; Sarah Petrin and her husband Kris Cray of Lewiston; Joannah Lapham and her husband Gary of Kennebunk; Andrea Perron and her husband Patrick of Biddeford. She is also survived by a sister Joan Stebbins of Biddeford, along with her grandchildren Samantha and Leah Perron of Biddeford, Thomas Gilpatrick of Biddeford, Jason Gilpatrick of Saco, Hank and Jack Lapham of Kennebunk; many nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends near and far. Peace, big fluffy white clouds on a clear blue sky & vast golf courses with balls that go long & strait, never a three-putt. Beach chairs in the sun, being forever in all the good moments & smiling at you with that gorgeous smile and the brightest of eyes. Private services to celebrate her life will be held this summer at Fortunes Rocks Beach under the sun and nears the waves of a place she held so dear. Assistance and guidance provided by A. T.
