Carol A. Herrick 1943 ~ 2016 Carol A. Herrick, 72 of Portland, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 14, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Portland in October of 1943, the daughter of Eddie and Kay (Vanier) Foley. She graduated from Cathedral High School. Carol married Peter Herrick and they settled in Portland. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this coming September. For the early years of their marriage Carol was a homemaker and mother to their 4 children. In later years Carol worked for the Maine Savings Bank, UNUM, The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, and L.L. Bean as a telemarketer. Upon retiring from L.L. Bean Carol cared for her grandson. She was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, friend and grandmother who cherished her grandchildren. She loved to entertain especially for family holidays and celebrations. The door to her home was always open and she welcomed anyone with open arms and some sort of baked goods. She would bake and cook in her kitchen until it seemed there was no place to put anything. She had a heart of gold and was willing to help anyone in need. She was ready and willing to supply school clothes, food and whatever was needed especially at Christmas time. She would give a pile of Christmas presents every year knowing it was the same thing, L. L. Bean attire. She was a rock in a pile of sand and we know it made a difference in the lives of those she touched who needed a support stone. She was a lifelong member of St. Pius X Church. She was an active member of the Women's Sodality Group at St. Pius and was often found serving at the monthly church suppers with her granddaughter. Her proudest accomplishment was being crowned the jitterbug champion at the Riverside Dance Hall beating out her brother Jimmy. In addition to her parents; she was predeceased by a brother, Francis Foley. Survivors in addition to her husband Peter Herrick are her daughters Susan of Lisbon, Kathy DePersia and her husband Jeff of Conneticut, Nikki Paige and her husband Christopher of Portland, and Diane of Lisbon. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Cody and Jason DePersia , and Megan and Ryan Paige. Her surviving siblings are James Foley and his wife Rose Ann, Mary Proulx, Philip Foley and his wife Kay, Jackie Foley and his wife Loretta.
