Carol Ann Cushman Peters Roland November 25, 1940 October 13, 2016 Carol Ann Cushman Peters Roland passed away October 13, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer's at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth with her family by her side. She was born November 25, 1940 in Portland to Joseph and Harriett (McIntyre) Cushman. Carol attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1959. After high school she went to work in the office of Nissen Bakery. She later worked in the office of the Portland Parks Department. Carol married Donald Peters on June 10, 1961 and together had two children, Michelle and Peter. They lived on Norwood St. and Baxter Blvd. in Portland. After the children were grown, she moved to Light House Point, Florida where she met and married Pat Roland. They moved to the mountains of North Carolina where she took great pride in helping to raise her two grandchildren, Jesse and Tyler. After some time, she moved back to Portland where she spent many happy years with her family. Carol and seven close friends formed a dance group call ""The Ya Salam Belly Dancers"". She spent many hours performing and putting on Greek dances and extravaganzas at the Italian American Heritage Center. Carol is preceded in death by: her parents Joseph and Harriett Cushman; maternal grandparents Patrick and Julia McIntyre; and paternal grandmother Muriel Cushman. She is survived by: her daughter Michelle Peters Butler of Portland; son James ""Pete"" Peters of South Portland; ex-son-in-law Jesse L. Butler of Portland; two beloved grandchildren Jesse Austin Butler and James Tyler Butler of, both of Portland; former husbands Donald Peters of South Portland and Pat Roland of North Carolina; brothers Joseph Cushman and his wife Charlotte of Bangor, George Cushman and his wife Joyce of Burlington, MA, Thomas Cushman and his wife Joan of Portland, and Terry Cushman and his wife Gayle of Windham, ME; sister Gail Clements and her husband Harry of Rocky Point, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; aunts Betty Cushman of Portland and Boudy Lanigan and her husband Billy of Rhode Island; special friend Noreen Parker of Portland; honorary sons Eric Nevers of Gorham and Jim Kilbride of Virginia; and honorary daughters Trudie Gillian of Gray and Pam Bither of Westbrook. Carol's family would like to thank the staff at Sedgewood Commons for their loving care and support. Friends and family are invited to a memorial visitation from 4:00 - 5:00 PM with a memorial service to follow at 5:00 PM at the South Portland Church of the Nazarene (525 Highland Ave., South Portland 04106) on Thursday, October 20, 2016. A celebration of Carol's life will follow at the church.
