Brett Frederick Lincoln MacMillan, 61, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, having been surrounded by his family. Brett was born on February 12, 1964, in Portland, Maine, the son of the late Harold MacMillan, the son of the late William Panton and the son of the late Geneva L. MacMillan. Brett grew up in Topeka, Kansas and graduated from Topeka High School. After graduation he attended Kansas State University on a football scholarship. Brett then moved back to Maine to help care for his grandfather after a bad car accident. He and Linda married in March 1995, lived in Westbrook for 5 years and then Portland for the last 25 years. Brett worked at the Maine Air National Guard in Bangor, Maine as an Avionics Electronics Technician for 25 years, initially in the Reserves, and then Active Duty for 8 years until his retirement in 2011 as a Master Sergeant. While he was in the Reserves he worked for Cianbro Corporation as an Ironworker for many years. After his retirement from the Maine Air National Guard, he worked as a Logistics Supply Technician for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and retired in May of 2025. Brett lived life to the fullest and was gentle, kind, generous, helpful, adventurous, and hardworking. He enjoyed traveling around the country by himself, as well as with Linda, Marissa, and Nicholas, visiting with family and friends, watching beautiful sunsets, and walking on the beach. He enjoyed the journey in his travels and made many cherished memories. His greatest joy was his family. He appreciated every moment spent with Linda, his children, granddaughter, extended family, siblings, friends, his three cats, and his children's dogs. He loved family gatherings at his home or other family members' homes for the holidays and birthdays. Brett was predeceased by his parents. Surviving in addition to his wife, Linda (Conlogue) MacMillan and his daughter, Marissa MacMillan and her fiancé Bruce McDonough; his son, Nicholas MacMillan and his girlfriend Gabrielle Allen; his sister Diane MacMillan and her husband Dr. Steven Rousey, MD; a brother, Steve Panton and his wife Cassie; a brother, Jeff Panton and his wife Kim; a sister, Valerie Panton; a sister, Leslie Ferguson; a sister, Karen Panton; and a sister, April Cloutier. He is also survived by his precious 1 year old granddaughter, Samina McDonough whom he loved to watch grow and play. He is also remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends around the country. He is remembered by his mother in-law Norma Conlogue; his sister-in-law Theresa Coyle and her husband Jim and their daughter Amelia; his sister-in-law Lisa Young and her husband Dale and his son Zach. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at the VA hospitals and clinics; Dr. Devon Evans, MD, Dr. Mark Wrona, MD and nurses and staff at New England Cancer Specialists; and the nurses and staff at Hospice of Southern Maine. Everyone provided Brett with exceptional loving care and compassion over his courageous 8-year battle with colon cancer. In addition, the family would like to extend special thanks to his brother-in-law, Dr. Steven Rousey, MD, for all the time spent talking with Brett over the years since his diagnosis. A Celebration of Brett's life will be held on Saturday, December 6th, at 3pm with visiting hours to follow from 4pm - 7pm, at A.T. Hutchins, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland, ME 04102.
