Betty A. Wilson October 24, 1928 September 4, 2015 Betty A. Wilson, 86, of Portland, passed away on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at the Barron Center. Betty was the daughter of Paul and Rose Heward Anderson . Betty was born Oct. 24, 1928 and grew up in Westbrook where she attended Westbrook schools. In 1950 she married Charles J. Wilson and they've been married 65 years. Betty worked for many years making custom draperies at home. She was a Girl Scout leader and involved in boy scouts with her husband for over 50 years. She worked many years at Camp William Hinds with the Cub/Boy Scouts. She made the first Camp Hinds flags. In 1992 she received the Silver Beaver Award, one of the highest awards in scouting. After retirement Betty and Charlie loved to travel to visit family and volunteered at the Boy Scout Service Center, Cumberland Fairgrounds, Native American pow wows and the Navy Relief Society. Betty was an avid reader, loved knitting slippers, baking bread and beans . Betty was a loving caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who thoroughly enjoyed her family. She was predeceased by her son Charles P. Wilson, siblings Paul Anderson, Charles Anderson, Evelyn Hoyt, and Donald Anderson. She is survived by her husband Charles J. Wilson, daughter Diane Bailey (Arthur) of Corpus Christi, TX, son David Wilson (Amanda) of Portland, and daughter-in-law Lori-Anne Wilson of Gray. Grandchildren : Christa Bailey Adams (Scott), Michelle Bailey Horne, Cynthia Bailey Allison (Stephen), Mallory Wilson Hammond (Cody), all of Texas, Neil Wilson of Gray, Stacey Wilson Grindel (Michael) of Standish, and Charles A. Wilson (Holly) of Gorham, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed frequent visits and outings with her nieces Sandy and Jenny Arlint. The family would like to thank the staff of the Barron Center and for their professional and compassionate care and support for our mother and father. Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation Thursday September 10, 2015 from 11 am to 1 pm. Followed by a Funeral Service at 1 pm, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave. Portland.
