Beth Ladner Dexter August 13, 1918 March 8, 2013 Beth Ladner Dexter died peacefully Friday, March 8th, exactly three years after her husband, Hiram, with her daughter Mabeth by her side. She was Born August 13, 1918 to Edith (Hooper) and Alexander Ladner in Bangor, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She attended various island schools and graduated from Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown PEI. During World War II, She moved to Portland, Maine and graduated from the former Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary in 1945. She received her registered nursing degree from the State of Maine. Upon graduation, she worked in various Portland Hospitals as well as on private duty assignments. In 1949, she married Hiram Dexter Jr. of Falmouth Foreside. They lived together in the Dexter family home for 61 years. Beth volunteered as a nurse with the American Red Cross and with the Falmouth Schools. She was awarded a plaque for over 20 years of volunteer service at Maine Medical Center in the Radiation Therapy Department. She was a member of the Junior Guild of the Foreside Community Church, the Friends of the Falmouth Memorial Library, the American Cancer Society, the Foreside Community Church and the Portland Art Museum. Those predeceasing her include her Husband, Hiram, her brothers, Elmer, Herbert, Arthur, Ernest, Lesley, and her sisters Ruth and Louise. She is survived by her daughter, Mabeth and son-in-law Michael of Falmouth who lived with and cared for her for the past three years, her Grandsons M. Chadley DeLuca of NYC, NY and Derek Alexander DeLuca of Falmouth, Maine, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice team for their loving care. Also, a very special thank you to Kim Hobbs for her loyalty, and companionship to Beth for almost a decade. Thanks to Lucille Wolff for her loving care giving and service for many years and to Glenn Anderson for his long time service to the family.
