Obituary

Bertel Edward Serfes, Sr. August 1, 1944 April 11, 2014 Bertel Edward Serfes Sr. 69 passed away on April 11, 2014. He was born in Yarmouth Maine, formerly of Falmouth Maine, a son of Louis and Mary Serfes. He was the youngest of 5 children and attended Falmouth schools. He joined the United States Marine Corps. in 1962, after 2 1/2 tours in Vietnam he was honorably discharged in 1970. Upon returning home he joined the Portland Police dept. and served 6 years until 1976. He then reloctated with his wife Carmen Serfes and their 3 children to Havelock NC. where he was a police officer for the Havlock Police dept. Until 1980. He returned to Maine with his family and was employed at the South Windham Correctioinal facility as a corrections officer for a term of 3 years. He then worked for the United States Postal Service until the time of his retirement. He is survived by his wife Carmen of 47 wonderful years, 2 children Bertel Edward Serfes Jr. and Miriam Lee Serfes and his predeceased daughter Mary Eloise Serfes. He has 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of life held at the Vineyard Christian fellowship church 715 Bridgton Rd. Westbrook (next to Prides Corner drive-in) on Wednesday April 23, 2014 from 4 to 6pm.
