Barbara Gagnon Marcisso March 23, 1929 April 13, 2015 Portland - Barbara Gagnon Marcisso passed away Monday, April 13, after a brief illness. She recently turned 86. A feat, after years of fighting throat cancer, that she was quite proud of. Barbara was born on March 23rd 1929, the first child of Walter and Emily Redman Knight in Portland, Maine. Her early years were spent with her siblings, Walter, Vivian, Gene & Martha, her family, and friends on Munjoy Hill. She attended Portland schools graduating from PHS in 1947. Barbara married Wilfred Gagnon Senior and the two started a family shortly thereafter. Barbara choose to stay home with her three children, Judy, Butch and Diane while they were young spending time at East End beach, taking train rides to OOB, and at the lake. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Winn, in 1995. Three years years later, she met Vincent Marcisso, and the two married in 2001. She spent her later years enjoying time with Vincent dancing and gambling their way from Maine to Florida. To summarize what she meant to those in her life in a couple paragraphs would never do her justice. Here is a glimpse of who she was: the biggest giver of compliments; wood stacker extraordinaire; Candyland champ; one glass of wine and she was feeling a little tipsy drinker; old movie fan; best hugger; afghan knitter; loyal friend; pincurl sleeper; extra goodnight kisser; family traditions keeper; pinecone wreath maker; elegant dresser; Beautiful perfume wearer; slots enthusiast; whoopie pie & Italian cookie baker; endless treat giver; cursive letter writer; "nicest lady" title receiver and "who is Mom/Nan's favorite" forever secret holder. Along with her first husband, Barbara was predeceased by her brother Walter Knight. She is survived by her husband, Vincent Marcisso; her daughters, Judy Thayer and husband Bob, Diane Hayden and her husband Jed; her son Butch Gagnon and his wife, Nancy; grandchildren Melissa Nee and her husband Michael; Robyn Moore and her husband Andrew; Travis Gagnon and his girlfriend Shannon; BJ Thayer and his wife Chandra. She is also survived by sister Vivian Knight Amedie; Sister-in-laws Lois Knight and Pauline Ham, her great-grandchildren Dawson, Grace, Kenzie, Delia, Brady, Abigail, Declan & Drew and many extended family members and friends. We will see you again one day...somewhere over the rainbow, where skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true. Friends and family are invited to visiting hours on Friday, April 17 from 4 - 7 pm at A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 18 at 10am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 492 Ocean Ave, Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
