Barbara Joan Collins July 10, 1935 July 9, 2013 Barbara Joan Collins, 77, of Yarmouth passed away peacefully, comfortably and with her family by her side on July 9, 2013 at Maine Medical Center. She was born in Portland on July 10, 1935, the younger daughter of Marion (Mansfield) and Newton Collins. She was a lifelong resident of Yarmouth. Barbara loved children and cared for many at her home over the years. She was very artistic and crocheted a variety of sweater sets for friends and family. She also loved to cook and share her recipes. In 2005, her sister-in-law, Sheila Collins, compiled a Collins Family Cookbook which features favorite family recipes and poems that Barbara wrote. It has become a treasured part of her legacy. In later years, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid Red Sox fan. Barbara had a large extended family that she took great joy in buying Christmas presents for. She spent hours looking over the many mail order catalogs she received searching for the perfect gift for her siblings, nieces and nephews. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she planned for it beginning in January of each year. Barbara will be remembered for her sunny and cheerful nature. She was always smiling and happy, even during her most difficult days. Everyone she came in contact with during her long life loved and admired her and her sweet disposition. Barbara is survived by her brothers, William Collins, Wayne Collins and his wife Sheila both of Yarmouth and Russell Collins (April) of North Yarmouth. She was predeceased by her sister Esther Flanders. She is survived by her niece Sandy and nephew Don who were her caregivers and many beloved nieces & nephews A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Riverside Cemetery, Yarmouth.
