Barbara Ann Caiazzo June 27, 1936 January 3, 2014 Scarborough - Barbara A. Caiazzo, 77, of Scarborough, passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, on Friday, January 3, 2014. Barbara was born in Portland on June 27, 1936, the daughter of Alfred and Mary Lee Whitmore. Growing up, she attended St. Dominic's Grammar School and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in 1955. Barbara held many positions throughout her career, working for the MICA Corporation, Mercy Hospital, and finally retiring from the City of Portland., where she worked in the Voter Registration Office for more than 20 years. Throughout her life, Barbara was involved in many parish activities at St. Dominic's Church. She sang in the variety shows and was an adult advisor for the CYO. She was also active in the Democratic Party in Portland. She loved cooking and sharing with others and was devoted to her family. Barbara was a loving grandmother to Tiana and mother to stepson Thomas and stepdaughter Lisa Marie. Barbara was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Mary Whitmore and Joan Whitmore Norton; and a nephew Edward Ridge. She is survived by her husband, Thomas G. (Vito) Caiazzo, Sr. ; her step-children, Thomas G. Caiazzo, Jr., and Lisa Marie Caiazzo, both of Portland; her Granddaughter, Tiana Caiazzo, of Portland. She is also survived by her aunt Virginia Whalen and her husband Michael of Scarborough; her niece Shauna Johnson and her husband James of Saco; her sisters-in-law, Grace Broy and her husband Albert of South Portland, Mary Crawford and her husband Mark of Standish, Philomena Vickerson and her husband Milton of Portland; her brother-in-law, Antonio Caiazzo and his wife Benita of Westbrook; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. She is also survived by three godchildren, Vincent Broy, Thomas Talbot and Christina Fields. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation which will be held from 3-8 PM on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 9:00 AM; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 72 Federal St, Portland.
