Barbara G. Burgess October 7, 1933 March 8, 2012 South Portland - Our beloved mother, Barbara G. Burgess of South Portland, died peacefully at home on March 8, 2012. She was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on October 7, 1933, the daughter of Charles and Dora (Wall) Morris. Barbara grew up on Vinalhaven, where her father was a skilled stone cutter on the island. Her father had learned his trade in Scotland, where he grew up in Dalbeattie, before coming to this country. In her younger years, Barbara enjoyed dancing, so much so, she became a dance instructor for children. She also became a wonderful cook and ran a successful cake decorating business for many years. Ever so proud of her Scottish heritage, she was famous for her condensed milk pudding, along with her seafood chowder. Barbara also loved to swim, walk and read, but most of all she loved taking care of her children and grandchildren. We will greatly miss her love, care and comfort. Barbara was predeceased by her parents and a brother Francis Morris. She is survived by her six children; Pamela Vatsinaris and her husband Steve of South Portland, Sandy Guerrette and her husband Rickie of Presque Isle, Doug Burgess of Westbrook, Stephen Burgess and his wife Patti of Caribou, Donna Delong and her husband Charles of Westfield and Matthew Burgess and his wife Jodie of Carmel. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Kristopher Burgess, Dylan Vatsinaris, Colin Vatsinaris, Annie Burgess, Ben Burgess, Maura Delong, Blake Delong, James Burgess and Abbie Burgess, along with a great grandchild, Luca Vatsinaris. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held later in the spring, with burial at the Brown's Head Cemetery on Vinalhaven.
