Barbara J. (Mullen) Black July 31, 1950 April 16, 2016 Portland Barbara J. (Mullen) Black, 65 Barbara J. Black, 65 of Portland died April 16, 2016 at the Barron Center in Portland. She was born in Portland on July 31, 1950 the daughter of the late Richard and Catherine Kilmartin. Barbara attended Cathedral Elementary, Jack Junior and was a Portland High School graduate. She was a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. On June 16, 1973 she married Gary Black and for a few years lived in Watertown, MA where Barbie was employed by the Perkins School for the Blind. After moving back to Maine, she was employed by Falmouth by the Sea and Viking Nursing Facilities. A period of time before the onset of her illness, Barbie was a PCA (Personal Care Assistant). In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an Aunt Peggy in 1989 who was a strong bond for Barbara and also brothers, Michael Mullen and Billy and Patrick Kilmartin. Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Gary Black, sons, Gregory Black of Whitefield, ME and Kevin Black of Cambridge, MA, sisters, Margaret Harmon and husband, Paul of Portland and Fran Kierstead and husband, Bob of Scarborough, brothers, John (Teddy) and Kevin Kilmartin of Portland and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to BC2 and 3South staff at the Barron Center for their excellent care of Barbara. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with the family on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 2-4P.M. at the A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland, ME. Funeral services will be held Thursday April 21, 2016 at 4P.M. at the funeral home. Private burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
