Anne MacDonald Royer July 31, 1934 February 11, 2016 SOUTH FREEPORT - Anne MacDonald Royer, 81, of South Freeport, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 11, 2016, with her daughter by her side. Anne was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on July 31, 1934, the daughter of Judge Herbert S. ""Hub"" MacDonald and Margaretta Miller ""Marge"" MacDonald. She married Frank C.~""Dick"" Royer in New Haven on September 8, 1956. Anne attended the Foote School and Prospect Hill School~in New Haven, and graduated from Vassar College with a degree in English in 1956. After graduation, she taught 4th grade in Charlottesville, VA while Dick finished law school. When they moved back to New Haven in 1957, Anne was a research assistant in the Yale University English Department. A decade of moving followed: two idyllic years in Bermuda, then on to Wayne, PA and Wilmington, DE where she taught elementary school. In 1971, the family moved to South Freeport, where Anne resided for the rest of her life. She taught in the Freeport elementary schools until 1979 when she went back to school to become a Legal Assistant. She worked for 12 years at Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer and Nelson primarily in Bankruptcy and Litigation practices. She retired in 1992. Anne was a devoted member of the South Freeport Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and served on the Church Council, the Music Committee and Called to Care. She was a Trustee of the B.H. Bartol Library (now Freeport Community Library) in the mid-70's and was a longtime member a member of the Harraseeket Yacht Club. She spent her summers on her beloved Squirrel Island, Maine. She loved her neighborhood, the library, kayaking, biking, and swimming, and she was an avid and accomplished gardener. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Phebe Royer Quattrucci, son-in-law, Gaetano, and her cherished granddaughter, Tessa, all of South Freeport; her brother, Herbert Stanley MacDonald, Jr., and his wife, Margaret ""Binnie"" MacDonald of Southwest Harbor, Maine; and her nieces and nephews, their spouses and children.
