Anne Teckla Carey September 23, 1918 March 1, 2012 BIDDEFORD: Anne Teckla Carey, 93 of Biddeford died on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the Barron Center in Portland after a brief illness. She was born September 23, 1918 a daughter of Albin and Constance Mary Jukos Kolas. Anne was raised in Biddeford and attended local schools. She graduated from Biddeford High School in 1937 as best girl athlete. She was also known as the 'Ginger Rogers' of her class. After high school she attended secretarial school in Boston. On November 11, 1945 she married Daniel L. Carey of Biddeford who predeceased her in January 1992. Along with her parents, Anne was predeceased by two sisters: Josephine Batura in 2011, Agnes Myers in 1996 and her daughter-in-law, Paula Paradis Carey in 1994. Over the years Anne held a variety of jobs. Prior to her marriage she worked as a nurse's aide, a dental receptionist, a salesclerk and as produce manager for the A&P. During her retirement years she worked part-time for her nephews in their Portland bakery and served on the board of directors for a local bank. Anne was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church in Biddeford and a member of the ladies sodality. She also served on numerous civic committees. For 30 years Anne and her late husband Dan enjoyed being snow birds in Zephyrhills, FL. with Anne actively participating in numerous social activities including the Red Hat ladies. Survivors include two daughters: Fannie Hirst of Biddeford, Ellen Carey of Biddeford, one son, Daniel Carey Jr. of Bangor; five grandchildren; Tiffany Hirst-Cheney of Billerica, MA; Alicia Snow and her husband Peter of West Greenwich, RI; Jennifer Nichols and her husband Greg of Schnecksville, PA; Thomas Carey and his fiancé Michelle of Westbrook; Michael Carey and his girlfriend Alix of Bangor; five great grandchildren: Trevor Cheney, Nicholas Snow, Rylee Snow, Kyle Nichols and Jake Nichols; a nephew, three nieces and two great nephews. A memorial celebration of her life will be private. Arrangements are by A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation services, Portland.
