Anna E. Allen January 17, 1919 August 21, 2016 Anna E. Allen, 97, formerly of Canco Woods, Portland, died Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the Kennebunk Center for Health & Rehabilitation. Born in Canton, she was a daughter of Lyman and Helen Daly Ellis. She graduated from Canton High School in the Class 1936 as the Salutatorian. She was a member of the basketball team for four years and was the Captain her senior year. She was a member of the debate team and drama club. Following high school, she graduated from Central Maine General School of Nursing with an RN Degree. On January 1, 1942 she married Arnold ""Dutch"" Allen. They moved to Portland, where they resided for 32 years. Anna worked for 25 years as the infirmary nurse at Westbrook College, retiring in 1974. As a former nurse her concern for those with health issues never ended including her time at Kennebunk Center for Health, where she daily would check on the health and care for fellow residents. Upon retirement, Anna and Dutch moved to Deland, Florida. Golf was a passion for both of them and they truly enjoyed their membership and events at the Southridge Country Club in Deland. They played often and developed wonderful friendships with many of the members. In 2007, Anna moved back to Portland and lived at Canco Woods for 7 years and for the past year and one half she resided at the Kennebunk Center for Health & Rehabilitation. Anna was a very quiet, serious person who loved her family and friends very much. Anna was predeceased by her husband Arnold ""Dutch"" Allen in 1993 and her sisters Myrtle Blake and Barbara Allanach. She is survived by a daughter Judy Kirk and her husband Al and her son Terry Allen and his wife Muriel both of Portland. She also leaves her grandchildren: John Stevens and his wife Debbie, Karen Shibles and her husband Scott, Betsy Shibles and her husband Steve, Debbie Maxcy and her husband Steve and Geoff Allen and his wife Jessica and great grandchildren: Hanna Shibles, Jack Shibles, Will Shibles, Morgan Shibles, Johnny Stevens, Lydia Maxcy, Drew Maxcy, Jacob Allen and Emma Allen. She is also survived by a niece Joan Prouty and a nephew Tom Allanach. The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful staff at the Kennebunk Center for their understanding, loving and caring for Anna. Services will be private.
