Anastasia 'Anna'
Bertin
May 16, 1929 – May 27, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Anastasia “Anna” (Sirpis) Bertin, on May 27, 2026, at the age of 97.
Anna was born to Melpomeni Kiriakis and Fotis Sirpis, who immigrated from Argiro Castro, Greece, and eventually settled in Maine. She was the youngest of five children, preceded by her two brothers, Alexander and Christopher Sirpis, and her two sisters, Helen Katsapis and Katherine Karantza. Anna experienced the loss of her mother at a young age, as Melpomeni passed away at the age of 39 when Anna was just 11 years old.
Anna graduated from Portland High School in 1947. She began her career working at E.L. Watkins Cleaners for three years before marrying the love of her life, Henry Bertin Jr. The couple shared 61 devoted years of marriage until Henry’s passing.
Together, Anna and Henry raised five beloved children: Roseanne Baillargeon and her husband Richard; Barbara Zaharis and her husband Glenn; Susan Groves and her husband Ronald; Lisa Matos; and Henry “Skip” Bertin III and his wife Monica.
Anna was a proud and loving grandmother to nine grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, as well as a cherished great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren and five step–great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her warmth and kindness.
Anna and Henry were longtime business owners, proudly operating Sawyer’s Flower Shop in Portland, Maine, for 35 years. Their family was deeply involved in the business—two of their daughters became floral designers, and their son assisted with deliveries—making it a true family endeavor.
Due to Henry’s declining health, the couple eventually retired and sold the shop. After a short time, Anna returned to work part-time at the Christmas Tree Shops in Scarborough, where she remained for ten years before retiring.
Anna’s life was defined by her dedication to her family, her strong work ethic, and her enduring love for those around her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visiting hours will be held from 1-3 Pm on Sunday June 7, 2026, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue. Funeral Services will be held 10 Am Monday June 8, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
