Althea W. Grubb August 1, 1921 July 15, 2016 Portland - Althea W. Grubb passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 at theBarron Center in Portland, ME. She was born on August 1, 1921 in Portsmouth, NH. She was the daughter of the late Olah T. Oliver and Grace Althea (Dow) Oliver. Althea was raised and educated in Portsmouth, NH in the historic Puddle Dock area, more commonly known today as Strawberry Banke. She grew up enjoying summers along the Piscataqua River and Pierce Island with her brothers and sisters. Surviving are her son Timothy R. Grubb of South Portland and her daughter, Tammi Jo Nappi of Scarborough. There are 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, also nieces and nephews. Althea is also survived by her brother; Stephen H. Oliver of Scarborough. Althea raised Stephen as her son in Falmouth and later moved to Portland. Althea was predeceased by her brothers; Ronnie Oliver, Buddy (Olah) Oliver, Larry Oliver and her sisters; Betty Day, Nancy Lestage, Barbara Oliver and, her niece Donna Michaud. Althea was a strong and vibrant woman known to speak her mind and in many ways she was ahead of her time. Her home was always an open door and she would help anyone in need. Her rescue of a young child was quoted in the Portland Press Herald as ""Althea waded 200 feet out into deep Back Bay mud to rescue another woman's toddler"". Althea was never a by-stander, always an advocate for those who couldn't defend themselves. She was extremely devoted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; they were a great source of enjoyment for her.
