Alan Nute October 3, 1924 August 21, 2012 Alan Nute, 87, formerly of Nashua, died Aug. 21, 2012 at Falmouth by the Sea in Falmouth, Maine. He was born on Oct. 3, 1924, in Manchester, NH, the son of Charles Moses and Alice Blanche (Patoine) Nute. Alan grew up in Merrimack, NH, as one of 10 siblings. He graduated from the McGaw School and attended St. Anselm College in Manchester. In 1956 he married Rita Eileen Hayward. They settled in Nashua and had two children, Gary and Cindy. Alan had a real love for his home state, and would take his children on all sorts of crazy car rides exploring areas all over New Hampshire. He also had a love for animals, would always adopt his pets from a shelter, and when adopting an animal would ask the staff, ""Which one needs a home the most?"" He was an excellent husband and father, always making sure everyone was taken care of. He was a gentle soul, had a witty sense of humor, and raised his children on a healthy dose of The Three Stooges. Alan was a child of the Depression, and learned to live frugally and responsibly. He was also a dreamer and a frustrated traveler, as raising children can cause one to be. After college he moved to Salt Lake City for a period of time before returning to New Hampshire, and in his later years made trips to visit family in Arizona and in Florida. He also visited Las Vegas and made a trip to see Hoover Dam. One of Alan's sisters wrote a memoir about their family growing up in Merrimack. Of Alan, she wrote, ""He is quiet, shy and sedate, seeming to be most comfortable when able to stay in the background, but he has much to offer others. He has perhaps the best intellect in the family, with an extraordinary memory and a serious, questing mind."" Alan worked for many years as a machinist, and retired in 1989. In retirement, he and Rita enjoyed several vacations to Poland Spring, ME, with Rita's sister Florence and her husband, Richard. In his last days he enjoyed watching the sail boats on Casco Bay from the patio of his residence at Falmouth by the Sea. His wife, Rita, predeceased him in 2003. He is survived by his son Gary A. Nute and his wife Judy of Hampstead, NH; his daughter Cynthia A. Allard and her husband Roger E. Allard, Jr. of Gorham, ME.; two brothers, Charles M. Nute, Jr. of Vero Beach, FL, and Donald M. Nute of Barefoot Bay, FL; two sisters, Barbara Whalin and Connie Lockwood, both of Tucson, AZ; a sister-in-law, Florence Lund of Nashua; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Marshall Nute; sisters Merilyn Bolton, Beryl Nute Smith, Ruth Smith, and Jean Nute. At Alan's request, there will be no services.
