Joan M. Douglass October 19, 1935 December 4, 2013 Joan M. Douglass, 78, of Virginia Street, died Wednesday December 4, 2013. Born in Portland, she is the daughter of Murray B. and Iva (Dolloff) Wakem. Joan graduated from Deering High School the Class of 1954. She worked at Maine Medical Center as a Unit Secretary for over 30 years. In 1955 she married Harry L. Douglass. Joan is predeceased by her parents, two brothers Murray (Burrt) Wakem, Jr. and Roger Wakem and her husband of 49 years in 2005. She is survived by three sons, James M. (Rebecca Wildes) of Westbrook, Clayton J. (Mildred Sparks) of Gray and Scott A. of Portland. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Rachel J. and Leah Douglass and a great grandson, Hayden Dyer. At Joan's request, there will be no services. Joan and Harry's cremains will be set in a peaceful place and a tree will be planted as a remembrance.
