Artemas Matthews Pickard April 3, 1935 December 1, 2016 ARTEMAS 'Art' MATTHEWS PICKARD FALMOUTH - Artemas 'Art' Matthews Pickard passed away peacefully December 1, 2016, at the Springbrook Center in Westbrook. He was born April 3, 1935, in Evanston, Illinois, the son of the late Artemas Gray and Olive Leona (Matthews) Pickard. Art was a 1953 graduate of North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, Illinois, and a graduate of Brown University, Providence, R.I., Class of 1957. He was a member of the NROTC program while at Brown and received his commission in the Navy at graduation. Two days after graduation from Brown Art married his classmate, Mary Bayley, and they immediately moved to Washington, D.C., where Art reported for Navy duty. After 4 years with the U.S. Navy, 2 on active duty, Art began a 35-year career with the IBM Corporation. Art was Past Commodore of the Wilson Cove Yacht Club, Rowayton, Connecticut; Past President of the Fairfield County (CT) Brown Club; Past Commander of the Rowayton Power Squadron; Past Commander of the Portland Head Sail and Power Squadron; and Past District Commander of both District 2 and District 19 of the U.S. Sail and Power Squadrons. He was also a licensed Coast Guard Captain. Survivors in addition to his wife Mary (Bayley) Pickard are his daughter Katherine Anne Pickard and her husband Arthur Leshane of Port Richey, Florida; son Thomas Bayley Pickard and his fiancée Donna Kim of Los Angeles, California; and 3 granddaughters, Casey and Veronica Pickard and Jessica Saarts. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Springbrook for the compassionate care Art received while there and also to Compassus Hospice Care. There will be no visiting hours. Services will be scheduled at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
