Steven Ronald Rice

Windham-Steven Ronald Rice, 61, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Steven was born on March 23, 1957, in Danbury, Connecticut to Rudolph R. and Elaine I. (Payson) Rice.

In 1976, Steven went to Goodwill and spent the next 42 years with them making many friends. Steven was very active and enjoyed time spent camping, bowling, swimming, and playing basketball. He enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics and had many medals that he won over the years. He was a recipient of Goodwill’s Community Involvement Award in 1997, and he also received the 2000 Goodwill Athletic Achievement Award.

Steven enjoyed trips with the Goodwill staff to Disney, and he loved a good meal especially pumpkin pie, morning coffee, and going to Dairy Queen for lunch. He was always dressed in the best clothes from L.L.Bean. He enjoyed just being home doing chores around the house and spending time with his housemates who describe Steven as a great friend who was very welcoming, radiated kindness, and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

He wore a warm smile and brought joy to all around him with his special Steven giggle. Steven will be missed greatly by many including his family and the staff and friends he made over the years at Goodwill.

He is survived by his mother Elaine (Payson) Cunningham and his cousins Barry, Brenda, Janet, Pam, and Randy.

A Celebration of Steven’s life will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019, from 4 to 6 p.m. at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue in Portland.
