Welcome to the memorial page for

Solomon Dancil

May 14, 1925 ~ April 25, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Solomon Dancil, affectionately known as “Sol”, passed away April 25, 2017.  He was born May 14, 1925 in Tampa, FL to Gaines R. and Alice B. (Cook) Dancil.

Sol attended Tampa, FL schools before serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, and for that we thank him.  Following his service and relocating to Maine, he worked for the Portland News Company for 33 years.  He was lovingly devoted to his wife, Patricia A. Dancil until her death in 2013.

Sol was kind and full of wisdom.  The name Solomon means “peaceful” and that’s exactly what he exemplified.  He had an award winning smile that could light up a room.  He was a blessing to so many by the joy he radiated.  One of his best moments came when he was 88 years old as he decided to follow Jesus and became a Christian.

Sol was preceded in death by:  his parents; eight siblings; and his loving wife, Patricia Dancil.  He is survived and forever missed by his children, Melanie Thomas of Cape Elizabeth, Sheila Adell of Portland, Keith Williams of Florida, and Byron Williams of Norway.  He will also be missed by his sisters, Asa Vales of New Jersey and Aaron Lolley of Florida, a host of grandkids, extended family, neighbors and friends.

Sol’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Gosnell Hospice and at Maine Medical Center for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, Sol’s family asks that you pay it forward with a random act of kindness.

Visitation will take place from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland.  Interment will take place at Forest City Cemetery.
