Siow Wooi "Shirley" Chang

Shirley Siow Wooi Chang, 56, tragically and unexpectedly passed away on September 23, 2018.

Born on August 31, 1962, in Malaysia, she moved to the United States to start a new and better

life. Working at a restaurant in New York, she met her life-long partner, Ren Chen, and opened

their own successful restaurant in Maine, there mom gave birth to me, Benjamin Chang. Though

faced with constant hardships and setbacks, she fought for a better life, not just for her but for

me. Starting in 2009, my mom and I attended the Chinese Gospel Church of Portland and soon after,

became baptized under Christ. She especially enjoyed playing hymns on the piano and singing with

her sisters.

Mom, I miss you. I’m not ready to let you go, not this early. We still had so much time together.

You taught me everything except how to live without you. You make me whole and you will

always be a part of my life, for as long as I live. I know you’re watching me now, protecting me.

I know you’ll be waiting in heaven for me and I look forward to one day feeling your warm

embrace again, thank you, mom, for your passion, your smiles, and your love and for your life.

I love you mom, I love you so much.

Shirley is survived by her son Benjamin Chang of Falmouth, her lifelong partner Ren Chen,

and numerous close friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018, from 8 am to 11 am. at A.T. Hutchins

Funeral Home660 Brighton Ave. Portland.  A funeral service will follow at 11am. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland following the service.

Light breakfast will be available during the visiting hours.
