Portland – Mr. Richard Catir Sr. went to heaven to join his loving wife Helen (Kenny) Catir, on June 16, 2017. He had lived in Portland, ME, Scarborough, ME, Higgins Beach, Honolulu, Hawaii, and was receiving loving care at the Barron Center when he died. He was the son of Salim Catir and Edna Maloof Catir.

Richard graduated from Portland High School in 1946. He was employed for 40 years by the Portland School Department as a Carpenter, Supervisor of Buildings, and later promoted to Plant Engineer. He was the past president and secretary of the Educational Plant Maintenance Association to further educate custodians and plant maintenance personnel. He was always proud to talk about the time he was called to sit in for the famous drummer Buddy Rich, down at the “Palace“ in Old Orchard Beach.

Richard was a life time member of Portland Elks Lodge #188, the Italian Heritage Center, the Higgins Beach Association, and Scarborough Community Services 55+ programs. He thrived on attending social activities, with his loving daughter Katherine Anthoine, which he did up until the last few weeks of his life.

Richard had traveled around the world with his wife Helen, Boating around the Casco Bay Islands was his greatest pleasure. Dining at Dimillos and Ken’s place made him very happy.

He was a prior member of St. Joseph’s Church in Portland, ME, and presently at St. Maximilian Kolbe in Scarborough.

Richard is survived by his daughter Katherine (Catir) Anthoine and son-in-law Stephen Anthoine, a brother Victor Catir, a grandchild Mark, and a great grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife Helen (Kenny) Catir, a son Richard Catir Jr., and his brother Frank Catir.
