Norma Jean MacWilliams, 88 of Wayside Rd., Portland, died Sunday December 9, 2018 at the Cedars. Born in Portland, she was a daughter of Neil B. and Elva Mosley Smith. She grew up during the depression a self-avowed tomboy and was a graduate of Deering High School.
In 1954 she married C. Richard “Dick” MacWilliams. They were married for 62 years. Dick predeceased Norma on January 4, 2017. Prior to starting their family, Norma worked as an administrative assistant for A & P Grocery Stores.
Norma was a stay at home mom, she dedicated herself to raising her children. She was a fabulous mom, a wonderful cook, kept a beautiful home and was a leader for the Camp Fire Girls.
She enjoyed spending summers with her children at Four Seasons campground in Naples, Maine and winters in Englewood, Florida with her husband Dick after he retired. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, line dancing, crocheting, puzzles, and shopping.
She was predeceased by her sister Shirley Wilson.
Norma is survived by her four children: daughter Lynne Karen Benson and partner Glenn Curtis of Portland, daughter Pamela Jean LaRosa and husband Joseph of North Reading, MA, son Bruce Alan MacWilliams and wife Elizabeth of Salt Lake City, UT, and daughter Sandra Jean MacWilliams-Raymond of Cape Elizabeth.
She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren: Timothy Benson, Shari Woodard, Kate Askew, Matthew and Ryan LaRosa, Tucker and Cameron Raymond, and Brynne and Colleen Jean MacWilliams and two great grandchildren Ellie and Rory Woodard.
