Mildred L. (Houston) McLaughlin

August 11, 1937 ~ December 11, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

South Portland – Mildred L. McLaughlin, 80, died on December 11, 2017 at Mercy Hospital after an eight month battle with cancer and lung disease.

 She was born August 11, 1937 in Portland the daughter of Harold and Velma (Warren) Hueston. Millie graduated from Portland High in 1955 she married Charles A. McLaughlin in 1957.  Her first career was a loving mother to her four children.  Her second career was a nurse, she graduated from SMVTI in 1977 and worked for Maine Medical Center for twenty three years before retiring.  She will be remembered for being loving, kind and compassionate in both her careers as a mother and nurse.

Millie was predeceased by her father, Harold, mother, Velma (Warren) Hueston and her loving husband, Charles A. Mclaughlin.  She is survived by her four children Linda J. Crawford, Charlene A. Hoffman, Kelly J. Yattaw and her husband Charles, all of South Portland, and her son, Christopher C. McLaughlin of West Virginia. She is also survived by her sister Roberta Mathews and her husband, Donald.

She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Matthew Crawford, Rachael Crawford, Alexander Hoffman, Elizabeth Yattaw, Victoria Stone-McLaughlin, Nathanial Hoffman, Andrew Yattaw, Christopher McLaughlin, Michael Yattaw, and Jacob McLaughlin, and also her one great grandchild, Milo, son of Alexander Hoffman.

She is also survived by her best friend Kathleen Murray and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Robert McLaughlin. Millie enjoyed her family, cooking (especially her well-loved Sunday spaghetti sauce), crosswords, seafood, visiting Fort Williams, and going to dinner once a month with her retired nursing friends from MMC.

A special thanks goes to all the nurses and staff at Mercy Hospital that made her final journey comforting to her and her family.

Visiting hours and a celebration of her life with be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 4:00 to 6:00 p.m at A. T. Hutchins at 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland.  A funeral mass will be held at The Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on Congress Street, Portland on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the spring at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
