Portland- Michael J. “Pop” Tapley, 61, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Gosnell House in Scarborough following a long battle with cancer.
Michael was born on November 27, 1956 to Norman A. and Kathleen M. (Winslow) Tapley in Bath, Maine. He married the love of his life Betty Slater and they lived in Portland. In October they celebrated 41 years of marriage.
Michael retired from B & M Bake Beans after 32 years of service. During his retirement, he enjoyed stump grinding for Jackson Tree Service along with Maine Medical Center’s Research Center in Scarborough.
Michael was a proud father of three boys, Kevin Michael, Stephen James and Ryan Joseph.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, his sister Dianna and his son Stephen.
He is Survived by his wife Betty, two sons, Kevin and his girlfriend Jennifer and Ryan and his wife Tatyana, a brother Norman and his wife Pam, two sisters, Donna and her husband Larry and Alice and her husband Bill.
He is also survived by five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank The New England Cancer Center and Dana Farber Cancer Institute for the love, support and incredible job.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 10, 2018 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at A. T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland.
