Michael Leighton Obituary

Michael “Doc” Leighton from Lewiston passed away on Tuesday September 18, 2018 at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn after a long fight with cancer surrounded by his family, friends and members of his club. He was born on January 20, 1965, the son of the late Norman Leighton and Josephine (Visconi) Leighton growing up in Westbrook.

In his younger years he was a volunteer firefighter for Westbrook, Gray and New Gloucester where is resided at the time. For many years he worked for Pine State Livery, A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home and worked as a Forensic Technician at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maine, which he greatly enjoyed.

In 2014 Mike and his late friend Edward “Rocker” Stanhope founded the Hooligan Riders Trademark, a group of motorcycle riders that ride together as a non-profit organization with the mission “To provide effective, positive support for children and their families. Supporting any child affected by physical, mental or substance abuse, bullying, neglect or childhood illness, to inspire hope and lasting change in children’s lives” who became his second family that he loved very much.

Although never on time for family functions, he loved gathering with his family and friends, just hanging out, reminiscing, telling stories. He loved spending time with his wife, his children and grandchildren, especially attending their sports functions. He always looked forward to spending time with his best friend of 18 years, John. He had an amazing sense of humor and sometimes you couldn’t tell what was going to come out next. He was a selfless person who would do anything for those who needed his support.

Mike is survived by his mother Josephine Leighton, his wife of 11 years Ann Leighton, his brothers Jim, Steven, David and Marc and their wives, his children Jennawai, Jessica, Joellen and Zack Nolette, step children Kristie, Dennis and Christopher, Grandchildren Keegan, Dylan, Scarlet, Myles, Owen, Kylie, Allison, Hannah, Brianne and Norman.  Former wives Sherry and Tammy along with many Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, Nieces and Cousins. Also, the brothers and sisters of the Hooligan Riders Trademark who will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, Mike has asked for donations to be made to the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.
