Welcome to the memorial page for

Louise M. McGinty

May 10, 1927 ~ June 21, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Our mother, Louise McGinty passed away at the Barron Center on June 21, 2017 after several years of declining health.  Louise was born May 10, 1927 in Portland where she lived her entire life.  She was the daughter of John L. and Annie (Wells) Ward.  She was raised in the Riverton neighborhood and was part of a large family.  She was predeceased by five brothers and one sister (John Sr., Fred, Henry, Lawrence, Richard, and Aristeen.

At the age of 42, Louise’s husband, Leo J. McGinty passed away changing her role of home maker to bread winner.  With her oldest son away in the military and 3 school age children left at home, lessons learned from her childhood large family got her through a rough period.  Louise worked at several local businesses before landing a job at St. Joseph’s Manor as a dietary aide.  After retirement she became a volunteer for the Portland School Dept. in their foster grandparent program at several area schools.  Working with children was one her greatest passions.  Stevens Ave. Congregational church was her other passion.  She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir for close to 30 years, and was president of the Woman’s Guild.

There are two surviving brothers, Clifford Ward of Casco and Lewis Ward of Detroit, Michigan, as well as, her children, David and wife Mari of Ocala, Florida, Wayne and wife Patricia of Portland, Joanne Flaherty of O.O.B., and Ellen Crimmin and her husband John of Double Oak, Texas and six grandchildren, 2 great grand children, and many nieces and nephews throughout the country.

At our mothers request there will be no visitation.  The family will hold a private service at a future date.  Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery next to her husband.

A heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at the Barron Center.  You made her last few years happy and peaceful.
