Welcome to the memorial page for

Linda Mary Tukey

June 23, 1949 ~ November 12, 2017 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Linda Mary Tukey, RN of Standish passed away on November 12, 2017, after a long, brave, battle with cancer.  She was supported by family and friends in her final months and days.

Born in Bangor, Maine on June 23, 1949, she was the daughter of Brig. General Philip Edgar Tukey Jr. and Jane Thompson Tukey.  Linda grew up in Bangor, living there for many years.  She moved to Standish ME, over thirty years ago, with her partner and life companion Edgar Therrien.

Graduating from Bangor High School in 1967, she furthered her education by graduating from Eastern Maine Medical Center School of Nursing.   She then went on to complete both a BS and MS in Business Administration at Husson College in the 1980s.

Her nursing and business careers were interesting and varied, both in Bangor and Greater Portland communities.  She retired, in the fall of 2015, as MDS Coordinator from South Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Biddeford.  Linda was looking forward to retirement and pursuing her love of travel.  This was tragically cut short by her illness.

"The Moody Blues" concerts, casinos and travels to St. Thomas with her sister were special times.  She and Edgar, along with family and friends, over the years had visited many states and countries.  Cruises were special for Linda.  She was planning a retirement celebration cruise when first diagnosed.  She loved animals, especially cats.  An outstanding cook, she never hesitated to just put something together!

Keeping with the Tukey tradition, Linda always kept in touch with the staff and commanders of the Maine Air National Guard.  She facilitated several memorial contributions to the Air Guard and supported the Educational Fund which was named for her father.  Never to miss a good reunion of her Father's friends or activities on the base, when invited, she went.  She truly loved the Maine Air National Guard!

Linda was predeceased by her father; mother; sister, Martha G. Tukey; this June by her faithful partner Edgar.  She is survived by her nephew, Christopher Chesaux, his wife, Mathala, and their daughter Janieva Tukey Hassan Chesaux.  Also survived by her loving and humorous Uncle Dr. Philip P. Thompson, age 100; many cousins; friends; her lifelong friend, Lois Ann Holmes; God daughter, Rebecca Estes-Francis; "nephew", David Estes; Great God-Daughter, Amara P. Francis and members of Edgar's family.

Linda was always upbeat, happy, with a touch of lipstick, a smile and a twinkle in her eye.  She fought a courageous fight.  She never wanted her passing to be sad.  At her request, there will be no services, but, a celebration of her life at a later date, to be announced.

Thank you to the staff at Mercy Hospital, New England Rehab Hospital, Springbrook Center and 75 State Street for their care and support.

Memorial contributions, in Linda's memory, may made to Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, PO Box 336, Westbrook ME 04098 or Tender Touch Vet Hospital and Home Care, 336 Gorham Rd, Scarborough ME 04074.
