Westbrook – Katherine ‘Kate’ Filiatrault, 44, passed away at home in the presence of family January 11, 2018 after a multi-year battle with breast cancer.

Kate graduated from Hugh C. Williams High School and St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY where she met and married her husband, John Filiatrault, of 16 years.  In addition to her husband, Kate is survived by her children (Claire and Justin), parents (David and Christina Klosner – Geneseo, NY) and brothers (Franz Klosner – Winfield, PA and Conrad Klosner – Clayton, NY).

Kate had a successful career with roles as a Project Manager for MCI WorldCom and an Academic Advisor at the University of Southern Maine, but left the workforce for her true calling as a full-time mother after her daughter was born in 2006.  She taught Sunday school at St. Anthony Parish, volunteered at Canal Elementary School and was active in many other community groups.  She enjoyed family hikes, camping and games.

In a long and difficult battle with cancer, Kate never let it diminish her spirit, never complained and never stopped thinking of other’s needs before her own.  She was a wonderful mother, daughter, wife and friend.  Kate will be cherished and remembered for her loving, selfless, kind and caring nature.

The family would like to thank Mercy Oncology (Portland) and Dana Farber Medical Center (Boston) for the loving care and support Kate, and family, received during her treatment.  In lieu of flowers, donations to either organization to assist breast cancer care and research is appreciated.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 15, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 16, 2018 at 11:00am at St Anthony of Padua Church in Westbrook.

Burial will be in the Spring.
