Jeremy and Joshua, I send my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your mother. Both you and your parents are remembered as a grand family. My last memory of your dad was when I sat next to him at Jeremy's concert. And remember Josh, those long visits we had prior to your confirmation when I was your godfather. Please send me a note with your telephone number so we can keep in touch. I'd like to hear from you before my century mark. My best always, Paul Taylor

Laurel and I got to know Jackie and Joe well several years ago. We immediately hit it off – for some strange reasons. Jackie had once worked for a Lutheran congregation, which was the time in her life when she first met Joe. Jackie and I would share war stories about the inner lives of some churches. Joe and I would also share theology stories, given his deep spiritual interests. Not for nothing did he persuade Jackie to give one of their sons the middle name Teilhard, after the great twentieth-century Catholic spiritual writer and paleontologist, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. The four of us also warmly shared childrearing stories and we congratulated ourselves, because all our kids turned out so great! Although the four of us knew each other for only a few years, Laurel and I treasured our occasional encounters.

Now Jackie, too, is gone. She will be missed by many for many good reasons, as the words in her obituary richly remind us. I will remember her most for the sparkle in her eyes, as when she talked about Jeremy and Joshua or when I twisted her arm to pay a little better attention to her health. I also believe that the grace of her baptism has now carried her though to life eternal, where she now awaits, with all the saints, the consummation of the universe in Christ, so richly described by Teilhard.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Jacqueline. I remember her from her time at NMSU and through her son Jeremy from back in high school, and hope the family is able to continue passing on her legacy for many generations to come.
