Helen Marie (Phinney) Dority

June 11, 1934 ~ October 17, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Portland –Helen Marie. Dority, 83, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at The Barron Center in Portland.

She was born on June 11, 1934 in Waterville the daughter of Otis and Elizabeth (Patterson) Phinney. She grew up in Bowdoin and graduated from Brunswick High School and also Pelletier’s Beauty School.

Helen worked as a beautician in Camden for several years before meeting her husband Howard; after they married they lived in Augusta for many years and had two children. In 1973 the family moved to Windsor this move was a move that Helen very much enjoyed as she was glad to be back in a country setting for which she was most comfortable in. She got in involved in the Windsor fair becoming a judge for the exhibition hall. Helen also had a love for animals and enjoyed watching, identifying and learning about the wild birds that would come to her feeders. She also loved dogs and over the years enjoyed the companionship of several dogs but her most special dog was her pug Kandi. 

 Helen also worked as a beautician in Gardiner at several boarding homes. Besides her work as a beautician she had many interest among them were playing the piano, cooking and baking which her family always enjoyed as she was excellent at both.  She was also an excellent seamstress and had made several wedding dresses over the years.

After 39 years of living and enjoying the beauty of her home in Windsor she moved to Portland in 2009 to be closer to her daughter.

Helen is survived by her two children Brian Dority and his partner Gayle Shapiro of West Hartford, Connecticut, and Terry Dority and her partner Sandra Kimball of Saco, Maine, one granddaughter Abigayle Madera and her husband Tony of Manchester, Connecticut, one great grandson Elijah of Manchester Connecticut, Also several Cousins. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 1:00pm at the Christian Fellowship Church 9 Reed Rd, Windsor, Maine.

In lieu of flowers if family or friends desire memorial contribution can be made in Helen’s name to Pug Rescue of New England;
