Gilles H. Fisette

May 15, 1930 ~ September 3, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Gilles H. Fisette, husband of Mildred V. Fisette, passed away September 3, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.  He was born May 15, 1930 in Berlin, NH, the son of Wilfrid and Antonia (Boisvert) Fisette.

 

Gilles graduated from Berlin High School and shortly thereafter went into the U.S. Air Force.  He was assigned to the 8th Fighter Wing division in Neubiberg, Germany.  While stationed there, he joined the U.S. Air Force Ice Hockey Team and travelled Europe for four years training with the U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Team.  Upon his return to the U.S., he was assigned to the Air Research Center at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.  His duties included working and participating in several atomic and hydrogen nuclear tests in Nevada, Pacific Proving Grounds, and Marshall Islands. 

 

Upon his termination of service, Gilles joined Allied Research Associates in Boston, MA where he participated in several more nuclear tests in Nevada and Pacific Proving Grounds.  Upon completion, he joined Smith-Corona Marchant as Sales Manager in Dayton, OH.  He later was promoted to Consumer Products Manager covering Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.  He was transferred by SCM to Portland, ME as Branch Manager for Maine and New Hampshire.  He later formed and owned AAA Office Equipment.  Prior to retirement, he worked in the insurance industry, specializing in life and disability insurance.

 

Gilles was a very positive family man who loved family get-togethers.  He was an avid sports fan and closely followed the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins.  He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roger, Raymond, and John Fisette.  He is survived by:  his wife of 63 years, Mildred Fisette; three daughters, Brenda McCully and her husband Robert, Cynthia Barry and her husband Martin, and Theresa McCabe and her husband Lynn; three sons, Kevin Fisette, David Fisette, and James Fisette; sister, Marcelle Giallongo and her husband Robert; brother, Robert Fisette; grandchildren, Merissa Barry, Christina Barry, Joseph Barry, Samantha Fisette, and James Fisette Jr.; and great-grandson Oliver Franks.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gilles’ name to Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org) or to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House (http://www.hospiceofsouthernmaine.org/gosnell-memorial-hospice-house).

 

A private service for family will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 11, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
