Evelyn M. Nordstrom, 86

Falmouth – Evelyn M. Nordstrom, 86, of Falmouth, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 10, 2017, with her family by her side. Born in South Orange, New Jersey on September 18, 1930, Evelyn was the daughter of Evelyn and William Trahman.

Moving to Union, New Jersey she joined the Girl Scouts and did her bit for the war effort growing award winning vegetables in a victory garden, between paper, metal, and grease drives.

She graduated from Union High School, Class of 1948, where she served on the student council, and sang in the glee club.  It was then off to the big lights Newark – New York, working several years for Prudential Insurance.  She married Robert N Nordstrom in 1952. Soon after they moved to Japan where he was station and where her first son was born.  She returned to the US in 1954 and lived in Skowhegan Maine where they built their home. They lived there for 15 years. She often said “They were some of her best years ever”. In 1969 she moved to Portland, working for Zayre’s, Ames, Porteous, Jordan Marsh, Macy’s, and Sears, before retiring.

Evelyn is remembered as a devoted mother and friend, who enjoyed a good laugh between friends, nights out with the girls, the Sox, bird watching, movies and cards. Above all else her focus was her family. She was a true champion of her children and raised them with an abundance of love and support.

She is survived by her loving sons, Stephen N. Nordstrom of Las Vegas Nevada, Gregory A Nordstrom of Falmouth, and Jeffrey W. Nordstrom and his wife Anne of Portland. She is also survived by two grandchildren Alan and Ellen Nordstrom. She was predeceased by her brother William Trahman of New Jersey.

At her request there will be no visiting hours or funeral services.
