Donald Thompson Obituary

Donnie Thompson passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, peacefully with his loving, devoted wife of 61 years by his side.

Donnie was born in Portland on February 7, 1937; the son of Anne (Amor) and Clayton Thompson. He

attended Portland Schools and joined the US Navy in the 1953 serving on the USS Intrepid until the birth

of his first child in 1957. Donnie was a proud Veteran and wore his USS Intrepid hat daily up until his

passing. He was a successful tractor trailer truck driver for Canada Dry, Getty Oil and Shaw’s which he

retired from in 1988. He took great pride in his truck driving skills and participated in several

competitions earning many first-place finishes. He was an avid reader; mostly history and Abraham

Lincoln was one of his top reading choices. Football was his favorite sport and he was a dedicated New

England Patriots fan. In addition to his family, he loved animals, especially Boxer Dogs and likely has

Butch, Luke, Willie and Duke by his side or in his lap which is what he and all of them preferred. He loved

cars; the make had to be Chevrolet and weather permitting, the car was washed and waxed on a regular

basis with precision. If he could con someone into helping him; it became their job and he had no

reluctance with the instructions he provided to produce his desired results; perfection. And if it rained

shortly after the waxing, the car stayed in the garage and others were sought after to use their vehicles.

His greatest loss in life was the death of his son Donny Jr in 2002 and the family is comforted by knowing

he is reunited with his beloved Son.

In addition to Donny Jr, Donnie was predeceased by his parents, Grandson Stevie Reali, Brother John

and his wife Beverly.

Donnie is survived by his wife Evelyn; Sister Eleanor Moore, Daughters Debbie Reali and husband

Steven, Linda Verrill and husband Mark, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces

and nephews.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to his Hospice Caregiver Alissa who provided loving and compassionate care and Donnie adored her.

There will be no visiting hours. A private celebration of life and burial with military honors will be held in the Spring.
